Selecting a Professional Commercial & Residential Tree Service

When selecting a tree company to fulfill your tree care needs, pay specific attention to these important details which are quite often, overlooked.

  •  What tools will they be using?

  • What kind of equipment will they have with them?

  •  Do they have a truck and chipper?

  • Are they trained in the proper use of their equipment?

  • What personal protective equipment (PPE) do they wear (hard hats, eye and ear protection, gloves, high visibility clothing, harnesses/saddles, steel-toed boots, chainsaw chaps, etc.)?

  • Are they licensed?

  • Are they insured and what is their coverage?

  •  Do they have traffic control signs and cones?

  • Are they trained in traffic control?

  • Are they trained and experienced in proper tree care techniques?

  •  Do they “top” trees?

  • Do they perform “Lion’s Tail” pruning?

  •  Have they received advanced training through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)?

  • Are they current and up to date in the ISA training?

  • Are they trained in first aid and CPR?

Many residents and businesses will hire the cheapest person or tree company that they can find. Cheapest is not always the best option. While it may seem easier, quicker, and is often cheaper, to hire these crews for tree work, it is important to consider the long-term costs and complications.

Individuals and businesses with little equipment may have lower overhead, but they may also have insufficient insurance coverage. In addition, these crews may not have the training or experience to properly perform the tree care needed.

Safety First Signage

"It is critical that professionals and non-professionals alike never attempt to cut down a tree without the proper equipment and experience. Between 2009 and 2015 there were 580 tree trimming related fatalities. That’s an alarming rate that is 3-times more than any other industry, and many of these fatalities are due to inexperienced individuals using improper equipment."
